Porf. Mizan R Khan
Prof. Mizan R. Khan has a Ph.D in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, MD, USA. Currently, he serves as the Technical Lead of the LDC Universities’ Consortium on Climate Change (LUCCC), which is an official program for capacity building in the LDCs. Since 2009 he served as Adjunct Professor/Visiting Fellow at the University of Manitoba; University of Calcutta; Universite de Poitiers; Brown University and the University of Maryland at College Park. He is a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Currently, he is contributing as the Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for writing the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7), hosted by UNEP. Prof. Khan has been nominated as a Board Member of the Scientific Council of COP29 Presidency. He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for drafting the 9th 5-year plans of Bangladesh.
Since August 1981 Mizan Khan served at the Bangladesh Institute of Int’l & Strategic Studies (BIISS), and left it in early 2002 as its Research Director. In the early 1990s, he worked for 3 years as a Senior Researcher at the Centre for International Development and Conflict Management (CIDCM) of the UMCP, MD, USA. He was Vice Chair of the LDC Expert Group under the UNFCCC during 2002-2004. Since 2001 Prof. Khan attends the UNFCCC negotiations as a member of the Bangladesh delegation. He speaks French & Russian as well.
During January 1999 – early July 2003 (on lien from BIISS), Dr. Khan served at UNDP to advise the Government of Bangladesh on environmental management. He served at North South University as Chair of the Dept of Environmental Science & Management (DESM) during July 2003-September 2009, and3 as Director of External Affairs *during 2014-2015. Since 01 May 2019 Prof. Khan served at the International Centre for Climate Change & Development (ICCCAD) at Independent University, Bangladesh. He is a widely travelled climate scientist, who speaks French & Russian as well.
Prof. Khan has a wide range of publications in peer-reviewed journals/magazines including Nature & Science. He has to his credit three books on climate change economics, politics and capacity building, published by Routledge & MIT Press
